JAKARTA – The Gojek and Tokopedia business collaboration that forms the super ecosystem, GoTo Group, is considered very strategic for the development of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

The digitization process that accompanies the ecosystem is a necessity and a solution for millions of MSMEs to become more empowered and expand their markets.

CEO and Founder of Wahyoo, Peter Shearer Setiawan, said that each company has strengths. Tokopedia has a MSMEs platform and can be digitized, and Go-Jek has the backbone in the form of transportation as widely known.

“This is a strategic combination that can have more value in strengthening our MSMEs,” said Peter, Tuesday, May 18, 2021.

Peter, who is also an UMKM Coach, said the Gojek-Tokopedia collaboration is an important breakthrough that could support the program by the government to expand the market base as well as the business capacity of MSMEs.

Moreover, these small business people are the main foundation of the Indonesian economy in various situations, including the economic crisis due to the current COVID-19 pandemic.

“The synergy in GoTo will provide a lot of convenience for MSMEs, both from the experience side and also the pricing side to be more attractive. The logistics and distribution are important for MSMEs as we all know,” he said.

Another strategic aspect is that each party in the GoTo collaboration has technology-based strengths. Peter believes that the technology team from Gojek and Tokopedia has a proficient ability to accelerate the development of the MSMEs.

“This will be a more comprehensive end-to-end digitization step. We support the inception of GoTo as a momentum for the revival of MSMEs in the digital era,” he said.

Peter added that prior to GoTo, the two local startups had formed a solid and broad ecosystem. Tokopedia, for example, is not just an online market service but already has ownership in Bridestory and Parentstory.

“Equipped with facilities from Gojek in various services such as Go-Play, Go-Ride, Go-Food. I think their collaboration is reciprocal. The hope of Indonesian people and especially MSMEs is that they can access the application 24 hours. Moreover, there are 100 million active users on their application,” added Peter.

From the financing aspect, the presence of Gopay in the GoTo super ecosystem is also expected to be a solution for strengthening funds for MSMEs. Understandably, so far, many MSMEs are unbankable so that it is difficult to access funds.

“We hope that GoTo can be part of the solution for financing the unbankable MSMEs. We are waiting for the results of the GoTo collaboration for the advancement of MSMEs and the Indonesian economy,” explained Peter.

The establishment of the GoTo Group is the largest business collaboration in Indonesia, as well as the largest collaboration between two internet and media service companies in Asia to date.

GoTo brings together the strengths of two leading technology companies in Indonesia that create unique and complementary ecosystems globally by providing various solutions to live everyday life with its motto “go to” ecosystem for daily life.

The GoTo Group ecosystem represents 2% of Indonesia’s total Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and will increasingly serve 270 million Indonesian consumers, as well as other emerging markets in Southeast Asia. There are more than two million driver partners registered as of December 2020, and at least 11 million business partners (merchants) as of December 2020.
